Porcelain clay bodies are generally translucent, very plastic and fires white. We offer a Grolleg Porcelain that uses imported English Grolleg. Grolleg Porcelain with Nylon Fiber is also available and gives more stability when throwing. We also offer a Domestic Porcelain Body that is similar to our Grolleg. Finally, we have our Polar Porcelain that fires at a lower cone range.
Porcelain is a totally manufactured clay. While it is not synthetic as such, various natural ingredients are refined and mixed up according to formulas. A good porcelain must be very white, vitreous, translucent while at the same time being plastic enough to work with. Most porcelain clays are fired from Cone 8 to Cone 10+. During the firing process, porcelain becomes vitreous or water tight so there is no need to glaze the inside of pieces. Although glaze should always be used on utilitarian ware.
